Thurs Sept 29th- Opposites: happy/sad & noisy/quiet

I did something different for scissor time- I had the kids roll out play dough to snakes and then they cut the play dough with the scissors. Upstairs the children played and then went on to circle time. Molly helped us with our colors and shapes and we had calendar and alphabet time. We continued to practice the two sounds of “C” and then had snack time after we wiggled with the wiggle song. For our last activity on Jack Be Nimble, we talked about what nimble and quick means. We completed a worksheet on what animals are nimble and quick and which ones are not. We also all passed off the Jack Be Nimble poem to Miss Alisha. It was opposites day so we started with our opposites song and then I read two stories- one about what makes us happy and one about what can make us feel sad. I took a picture of them making happy faces and then sad faces. For table time, each child colored a happy/sad puppet and we used these to review these emotions. For noisy and quiet lesson, our class discussed places that are noisy and those that are quiet. I brought out all of my musical instruments and we rotated using all of them. I had the students create noisy sounds and then we would make quiet sounds. Nothing like hands on experiments to get three year olds excited! For “C” time, we sang our C song and made the letter C with our bodies. I stamped the little c on each of the children’s hands and we had a few minutes to play with the chalk outside. Wednesday Sept 28th- birds of the forest

I did something different for scissor time- I had the kids roll out play dough to snakes and then they cut the play dough with the scissors. I brought out Julia, my daughter’s bird so we could observe her for our theme of the day. We did shape & color name cards to practice during circle time. We continued to work on the letter “A” and its three sounds. I read the book- The Biggest Apple Ever to the students. During our instruction time, we talked about finches, woodpeckers, and owls and birds in general. Then I did a patterning practice with the kids using the birds that we talked about. We do need help with recognizing patterns. They are everywhere- point them out to your child. These are early math skills that your child will use in kindergarten. I will continue to work with all the kids on them. For letter time, the students completed their Alvin Alligator worksheet finding all the animals and then coloring our alphabet friend. Each child got an apple scented sticker for A day. AM class

Tues Sept 27th- Friend day

Each child practiced printing their name today and then came upstairs to play and work on the letter C with Miss Alisha. They learned that C has two sounds- "c" as in cow and "c'" as in cereal. We talked about being a friend. I had a song that we marched to and we sang how each person in our class is a friend. I read them a few books- "I can be a great friend" and "How I can be a good friend". We discussed how we can make friends and keep our friends. Each child got a headband- I can be a friend. We also played "follow our friend" and each child had the chance to be the "friend" and we had to follow what actions they did. Each child completed their Cc practice sheet by coloring the candy corn. Each child got the C stamp and practiced the C sounds once again and we were done to play with chalk outside.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mon Sept 26th- forest animals

We started our day with name practice. I had all the letters of their name on the table. They took their letters and had to put them in order and then tell me what letters they are. Some of us know our names and some of us do not so I am trying to have them memorize and then we can move on to printing them by themselves. Upstairs we played with animals and babies and I practiced the letter A with each child. Then I brought out a special treat- my daughter's guinea pigs. All your children pet them and had some fun watching them. We talked about the forest animals. I have a poster of the animals and each child we able to come and find an animal in the forest and I gave them some facts about each one. Deer, foxes, bears, beavers, snakes, chipmunks, and groundhogs are the animals we discussed. We also did a worksheet about matching each animal to their home. For the letter “A” we learned the sounds- the “A”, “aahh” and “uuh”- I talked about how “A” is special because it is the only letter with three sounds and how it is also a vowel that helps to make words. We found that we had vowels in all of our names and how those letters are so important!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fri Sept 23rd- #1

Each child practiced the letter T at the table downstairs and then did individual practice of the number 1 with me during play time. Today we twisted to the letter T and practiced our color words. Because today was the first day of Fall, I read the students a book- Let it FALL! And we discussed the changes that will be heading our way with our change of seasons. We sang and danced to the Autumn song that I have- blowing like the wind, making falling leaves, raking the leaves up and jumping right in! For practicing the number 1, we sang the numeral song – just singing the first line and then learned that the number one in Spanish is uno. We also practice zero is cero in Spanish. We went over to the table and finished the worksheets for the number one- coloring one flower and one ice cream cone scoop and finding the ones among the zeros. For fine motor practice as I prepped for Tiger T time, I had the kids use tweezers and they had to pick up beads and put them into piles. Each child did good with this but they could all use some practice. Once they completed it they came to the table and made a very unique T Tiger. Hope you have been enjoying these works of art! Afterwards they came back to the beads and then we started to thread them on pipe cleaners (only PM class did)- they each have an awesome bracelet- made just by them!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thurs Sept 22nd- weather day

Today we celebrated Jax's 3rd birthday! We had some yummy homemade oreos and sang Happy birthday to him. We read a story about weather and discussed types of weather- rainy, windy, snowy, sunny and cloudy. I sing a weather song each time we do weather time at circle time that spells each of the types of weather. We also made our own weather wheel kind of like the one we use at weather time and talked about the different types of clothes we wear in different types of weather. For “B” time we colored the picture to the letter B that we had practiced tracing earlier. We also played with bubbles, beads and did art on the blackboard.

 

 

Wed Sept 21st- Plants of the forest

Started our day with scissor practice and then had circle time where we tip toed to the sound of the letter T. We talked about plants in the forest- ferns, moss and where is grows (not here), vines and berry bushes. I also talked about not eating berries on bushes because you never know if they could hurt you and make you sick. Each student matched the correct toothbrushes and then colored their Timmy Tiger page. We had a great time walking to the park and playing there observing the plants on the way. Thanks to Quincey, Renee and Kathrynn for helping me out with our sweeties there!

 

 

Tues Sept 20th- #1

Downstairs, each child traced their names and then worked on fine motor skills by gluing beans on the letters of their name. We practiced the number 1. Each number we talk about will have a rhyme about a Kitten and her jar. We see what is in her jar and then we practice the number & we put stickers in the jar on our worksheets. These sheets will be placed in the binder at the end of the year for practice. We learned that 1 in Spanish is uno. For “B” time, we read the story Bubble Bear and each child brought a copy of this home. We finished the day with playing with blocks.
