Our last few weeks...

We just had our Preschool graduation today and I am so glad that it turned out so well. Too fun to see how much these sweet children have grown! Here is what we have done this month!

Tuesday May 5th- SHAPES day. We played Hullaboolu, worked on our last "All about me" sheet and had fun identifying all the shapes around the room. We also celebrate both of the N's birthdays- N.B. was celebrating his real birthday and N.A. was celebrating his "unbirthday" because his is in August!
Wednesday was our sun safety and water play day. I made 50 water balloons, set up the slip and slide and we played water games in the back. Mr. J was there to help- I think he had as much fun just watching all the fun the boys were having. We also talked about the sun and ways to protect ourselves!
Thursday the 7th was our colors day. We talked about each color and how to make them. We played with a rainbow assortment of playdough and did some color worksheets.

Tuesday the 12th was numbers day. We sang our numeral song, read Chicka Chicka 1,2,3 and made our numbers poster for our rooms. We also finished Little Boy Blue- our last nursery rhyme of the year!
Wednesday the 13th was games day. G brought Memory and we also played Candyland, and You to the Rescue (Horton hears a Who game). We also played games outside- the most favorite place for the boys :)
Thursday the 14th we celebrated D's birthday with Krispy Kremes- yummy! It was also alphabet review day. We continued to practice for graduation, we made posters with the alphabet stamps and invitation for our graduation to give to family. We also watched Here comes the ABC's- a video of music that we have been listening to during the year. We danced and enjoyed our time together!

Our last week- Tuesday the 19th was our last day of "school" with everyone! We practiced graduation program, had snacks and played their choice of games/maniputives. We also watched Signing Time- practice ABC's so the kids could practice signing. I also face painted and took pictures.
Wednesday was our last day with our small class. We practiced and reviewed the year. Worked on patterns and our alphabet.
Thursday was our class at the church for graduation. We played for the first bit then it was right to work with practicing. We had our snack and made our father's day gifts. We practiced through it again before moms came to pick up and say goodbye!

Graduation turned out so sweet! Hope all you know how much I love your kids! They are the sweetest and I have truly enjoyed and cherished the time I have had with them :) Miss Alisha

Weeks 28 - 32

Week 28-
Tuesday the 31st- we continued with the "I can go to town" theme and talked about libraries and banks. We discussed what is in these places and how they are important. Our class did pretend play- each child receiving their very own "Kinder-Tots Preschool Library card" which they used to check out books one at a time. I made the "beep" noise with their card and the book and they loved it! I enjoyed it too :) This week was just a review of the alphabet letters we have learned so far.
Wednesday the 1st- The ocean and the seashore was our theme and read many books about animals and plants we see there. We made ocean scenes and talked also about the importance of being careful playing around water.
Thursday the 2nd was our field trip to the Farm. I think the kids really enjoy going to the farm and having a hands on experience. O is still talking about Farmer Jason. I have lots of pictures of the kids that you will get on the CD at the end of the year. In all, it was a fun day- I hope your child liked it too! This was also a great way to start us on our monthly unit about the farm.

Week 29-
Tuesday the 7th was our lesson about the farm. We touched on all the aspects- farming & the equipment, the animals, buildings and people involved. We also learned about the letter "W".
Wednesday the 8th was on Little Red Riding Hood. We read the story and ate grandmother's cookies for snack. Each child made puppets for the story and a wolf mask to take home so they could tell family members the story they learned.
Thursday the 9th was about all the farm animals. I had each child look at our farm poster and find an animal that they wanted to learn about and we talked about each one. This was also our Easter egg hunt day- who knew that hunts could be so crazy! They love doing it though so I love doing it for them.

Week 30-
Tuesday the 14th was black day. We colored our black books, colored a black suit on a bear and painted black spots on white paper like we saw on the cows at the farm. We also started on the letter "X". This is a harder sound to work on with the kids but they did great. I taught them "Captain Hook" finger because that is the sign for the letter "X" with "X" marking the spot of pirate treasure. We also celebrated O.B's birthday- in both classes. I guess there is a bonus to going to preschool twice each day.
Wednesday the 15th we celebrated Earth day- a week early! We talked about how they can help the Earth- even as kids. We made some goals to work on so I hope you have seen a difference in them- turning off lights in rooms no on is in, turning off the TV after they are done watching, keeping the water off as they brush their teeth, recycling and throwing trash away.
Thursday the 16th was the number 10 day. We practiced counting up to ten, singing our numeral song. We also practiced in Spanish and also traced it. 10 farmers needed hats so they colored hats on each one of them.
Week 31-
Tuesday the 21st was our day to practice being a farmer by planting seeds. I wanted to teach them what is needed in planting seeds- water, sunlight and soil. For them to see the process though, we planted our seed in a plastic bag so we could see the root start and the stem shoot upwards. They loved watching how much progress they were making. We also started with the letter "Y"- learning that it helps out our vowel friends- A, E, I, O & U.
Wednesday the 22nd- we celebrated Eric Carle and all the books he has created and published. I had them all out for the boys to read and enjoy. We also watched a few of Eric Carle's books that have been made into movies. The boys enjoyed the stories coming to life. We talked about the Hungry Little Caterpillar and colored the different segments of the story ang then put them back together.
Thursday the 23rd was "I can be patient" day and we discovered that we had to be patient with our seeds growing. We also talked about other ways we have to be patient and when we have to wait of things. They knew all about this and I was impressed on how much they told me of things they have to be patient for.
Week 32-
Tuesday the 28th was white day. Each of the kids found white somewhere on them- even it was on their teeth! :) We painted something white in class, but it is for our Mother's day gift...so no more details than that. We learned that white is the opposite of black- our color a few weeks ago. We also started on our last letter of the year-"Z"! It is fun to see how much we have learned this year- time has flown by much too quickly.
Wednesday the 29th was our day to learn the Tortoise and the Hare and how slow and steady wins the race. The boys were shocked that the tortoise actually won! We discussed the opposites- slow and fast and where we see those speeds in nature and all around our world. The boys colored a tortoise and a hare puppet to take home. They also cut out manipulatives of the tortoise and the hare- 6 of each. We practiced adding, subtracting and making patterns with these for the rest of class.
Thursday the 30th was a great day for us to practice counting to 30-has your child counted to 30 for you yet? We practice every day of class. We can also count to 20 in Spanish! We talked about caterpillars and butterflies- next time I will plan better so we will have our little friends in the class with them when I do this unit. I like to have them in the class each year- they always love seeing the change that the caterpillars make and then watching them fly away. They learned about the life cycle of the butterfly starting with the egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly!

Weeks 23 - 27

Week 23- Tuesday the 17th our focus was on the sun and the moon. We talked about the differences between the sun and the moon, when we see them and how they orbit in space. We also talked about the opposties of the sun and the moon- day and night. Our letter was "R"- we liked reving our engines to be a racecar.
Wednesday the 18th was a celebration of Presidents' day- we read stories about the lives of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We did quarter and penny rubbings and made 3 corner hats. We also colored pictures of the presidents and played with Lincoln logs.
Thursday the 19th was our day to focus on the star shape. We traced, colored and filled in our stars with star stickers. We put stars in the sky wtih stickers as well. We also traced and colored our "R" sheet. We continued to practice our planets song. I hope you have found that this song is adorable!

Week 24- Tuesday the 24th we worked with the number 8. We first did some gross motor work. I taped the number 8 on the ground on the carpet and we learned how to make an "S" ( which happened to be the letter of the week) and then we closed the gate. We also practiced our numeral song by tracing our numbers in the air while singing our song. We traced the number eight- this one is a hard one but I hope with the different methods of learning that they might have grasped it. We also started working on the letter "S". During snack we celebrated T's birthday- I love having birthdays in class- they are so much fun :)
Wednesday the 25th was all about ants and ladybugs. We discussed ants and how they work together as a team- each having a job. We watched the Magic School Bus all about ants and their roles in the colony. We also talked about ladybugs- the next week, we got our classroom ladybugs to observe up close! We colored spots on ladybugs and I taught about the different cycles of the ladybug.
Thursday the 26th was our planets day. We sang our planets song, read and explored books all about the different planets and each child received a solar planet page that is exactly like the poster I have in class. We then watched the Blue's Clues from where I got the planets song from. It was fun to have a culmination from where the song came from. The kids enjoyed it! We also traced the letter "S" and worked on its sound.

Week 25- Tuesday March 3rd was all about helping. We discussed how they can help in their homes and neighborhoods and who they can help. I hope they came home and started helping more! Our letter of the week was "T"- tapping T. During snack time we celebrated C and O.M.'s birthdays- there are pictures in the slide of them blowing out their candles. We also started a new Nursery Rhyme- Hickory Dickory Dock. They have mastered this one quick!
Wednesday the 4th was a day all about Dr. Seuss and his books. We talked about the author and read some of his famous stories. We ate green eggs and ham for snack and read "Green eggs and ham". We made Cat hats and read "The Cat in the Hat" and lastly we talked about feelings and we read "The Sneeches." It was FULL of reading but we were able to enjoy all the great stories he had created.
Thursday the 5th- we concentrated on the oval shape. We traced an oval and then filled our ovals with colorful ovals. We finished our day tracing the letter "T" and working with its sound.

Week 26- Tuesday the 10th- Our number 9 day. We practiced counting in english and spanish as well as tracing it. We also work on the number by tracing the numbers in the air with our numeral song. They use their "magic pencil" or fingertip to trace. We also started with the letter "U". Because "U" is a vowel and we have learned the majority of the vowels I have started focusing on their importance. We discussed how vowels are in EVERY word and how they stick letters together to make words. We listened to a vowels song and I showed all their names on the board and we found the vowels in their names. They were excited to see that they had vowels and that they could find and recognize them. In my Wednesday class, we will start more a focus on reading starting after spring break. We also added a new addition to our class- caterpillers! The kids have loved observing them and seeing how much they eat!
Wednesday the 11th we celebrated St. Patrick's Day. For snack we ate Lucky Charms and talked about rainbows and what Leprechauns put at the end of the rainbows. We colored a rainbow and then they drew a picture of their treasure that would be at the end of the rainbow. I also traced their hands and we made rainbows of their handprints. I talked about who St. Patrick is and where these legends originated. Each of the boys colored a Leprechaun hat and we practiced counting and tracing the numbers 3 and 4 on clovers.
Thursday the 12th- PURPLE day. We learned how to make purple with red and blue finger paints and then they made grapes on a vine. We also completed a purple book and read Harold and the purple crayon in the AM class and Purplicious in the PM class. We traced the letter "U" and worked on its two sounds- u as in unicorn and u as in up.

Spring Break was during March 17 - 19.

Week 27- Tuesday the 24th we started discussing our community beginning with grocery stores and restaurants. We learned they both supply food but in different ways. We made our own menus and played restaurant with all the fake food and kitchen I have. We also started on "V"- vvrooming around the room. This is a harder sound to make- some of the kids were saying "Ba" or "Da" so this would be a great sound to work on at home.
Wednesday the 25th- Three Billy Goats gruff day. We ate goat food- carrots, appls, oranges and grapes. We read the story and then we practiced by using the storyboard. Each of the boys made the puppets for the story so they can share at home. We started our first word family book- "-at". We colored all the -at words in the reader so we could recognize the sounds and what they look like. We also practiced word whamming and make words to read. They are going to do great!
Thursday the 26th- Opposites: big and little- we talked about what opposites are and looked around the room to see what is big and little. They colored a sheet about babies and children and how they are growing big. We also painted with big and little paint brushes. These little masterpieces will be displayed on the door each day as an easter egg.

I wish I could have taken more pictures- I was too busy making the bread with the boys :( Sorry! But they kneaded their own loaves and I baked them to take home. Yummy fresh bread- plus we read the story and talked about each step.

Week 21- Tuesday the 3rd of February- we worked on the number 7 as well as "P". We popped like popcorn and practiced counting and tracing the number 7. Wednesday the 4th was out Chinese New Year day. The boys didn't like it so much :( Thursday the 5th was yellow day. We put corn kernals on our yellow sheet, colored in our yellow books and talked about things that are yellow.

Week 22- Tuesday the 10th was our day all about pink and hearts. We made pink paint by mixing red and white fingerpaint and then we painted our hearts. Next, we made our valentine frames for our families then decorate a cookie. Afterwards, we passed out our valentines for each other. I think all the students loved doing something for each other. Our make up day was on Friday the 13th. We talked about getting along with our friends. We played outside together and after snacks, we divided into teams and worked together on puzzles. They really worked well together! We also practiced all our letters we have learned so far. They are doing very well.

That evening we had our literacy night. I am sorry that it was a busy weekend- not only was it valentines but it was also a three day weekend! We had a few families come and share their family traditions and bring yummy treats to share. The kids then made bookmarks to take home to put in their favorite books. I hope all who came had fun and we missed everyone who was not able to come!
