Fri Oct 7th- Opposites: stop/go

We practiced the letter “F” downstairs and then I had a few forts set up to play with upstairs along with babies and puppets to play with. Our star helped with our circle time and we had the whole class pass of the poem of the month- I think it was too easy. So we started a new project- learning 5 little pumpkins song. This will be a cute one to have your child tell you and great for the season! We finished circle time- saying goodbye to Farrah Fox as well as practicing the sign and sounds to all the letters we have learned so far. After snack time, I read Froggy’s Halloween to go along with the letter “F” and then we did the opposites song to prep us for opposites day! We learned about the opposites stop and go and talked about where we see special signs that show us to do these things. The students then colored a traffic signal with the correct colors and then we went out to my driveway to play Stop and go with red and green paddles. Each child had a chance to be the signal- the kids had a lot of fun doing this activity. I made each child their own set of the color paddles so they can play stop and go at home with their family. For letter time, each student made a new frog friend with the letter “F”. I also stamped their hand with a little letter f. We also practiced patterns together with my new Halloween set- they are doing great! AM Class

Mon Oct 10th- Following the rules/Christopher Columbus

Since it was “L” week, we first started with name practice then played with little legos, magnetic letters, links and vehicle puzzles. After show and tell and binder time, I read about Christopher Columbus and his discoveries. I used the globe to show where these events took place. Our theme was following the rules. We talked about rules of the road and different signs that we see on the road. After that, we talked about the rules of the classroom. We really have remembered them through the pictures and it was a great time to review. Lenny Lion was the friend of the week for the letter “L”. He loves his lemonade and climbing up his ladder to get it. He also loves to play with lizards. I practiced the letter “L” with the kids during play time (not a hard one to do) and we also learned its sign and sound. We colored our “L” sheet and then did an art project making tissue paper leavesAt the end of class, I gave each child a lollypop and a L stamp on their hand.

Thurs Oct 6th- Fairy Tales day

Thursday we had a fairy tale day to go along with our new monthly theme: I can imagine! I had my castle and tunnel and fort set up for some imagination play. I also brought out a big box of puppets for them to play with as well. At the beginning of each month, I measure how tall they have gotten and we complete a page about the month. I also worked on printing the letter “D” with each child. These pages will be in the binders at the end of the year. The fairy tales that were told were Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. I also talked about safety with strangers and how Little Red disobeyed her mom when she talked to a stranger. For Little Red Riding Hood, we made puppets for the kids to take home then they could tell the story to their families. For “D” time, we colored our “D” drum and read Duck and Goose find a pumpkin.

Wed Oct 5th- Vehicles for work

We played with duplo blocks, beads and school tanagram magnets- creating designs with shapes. I measured each child to see how tall they have gotten over the last month and then we completed their All about me October page after circle and snack time. We read Firefighter Ted to go along with the letter “F” this week after the star shared their show and tell and we looked at their binder. I reviewed with the class what a vehicle is and then we talked about four different vehicles that we use in hard work- excavators, bulldozers, cranes and road rollers. I sang a song and discussed each one with the class and then we completed a matching page with all the vehicles we spoke of. For “F” time, we practiced our sound and sign for the letter and then colored Farrah Fox to take home.

Tues Oct 4th- circles

We practiced our scissor skills when we first came in and then off upstairs to play with Mr. Potato Head and duplos. Aspen was our star of the week. We started our new Nursery Rhyme- Jack & Jill. We are learning this one much faster than Jack Be Nimble. I have better actions for this month’s poem.  We colored our Jack & Jill booklets so we can practice with them at home. For our practice with circles, I took each child aside during play at the beginning of class and we practiced making our circles. After snacks and show and tell time, I read “What is round?” book to the class. Then we decorated circles with foam circle stickers and happy faced stickers. I also had each child stamp circles on their circle page. “D” was the letter of the week- we practiced our sign for the letter and its sound. I read the Alphatales story about Detective Dog and the disappearing doughnuts. Then I stamped their hands with the letter D and a circle.

Mon October 3rd- Vehicles for fun

We started our new theme: Things that go! Our first topic was vehicles for fun. We also had a few students already pass off their monthly poem. Esther was our star this week. For our class time, we talked about what a vehicle is, what vehicles are used for and how they can help us. At table time, the class worked on a patterning page with different vehicles that are fun- bikes, tricycles, power wheels, ect. “F” was the letter of the week. We learned about Farrah Fox and how she likes her fan and feathers. I practiced the “F” with each child individually at play time at the beginning of class. For “F” time- we read about Fifi’s flute and how all the animals in the forest tried to help her. Fish saved the day! We also practiced the sign and the sound of the letter. Ask your child if they remember…

Fri Sept 30- Number 2

Everyone practiced printing the letter A downstairs and then we played upstairs. I worked with each student on the number 2. Our star helped with circle time and we counted to 30 since it was the 30th of September. They did a great job! Practiced the letter A- sounds and sign and sang our ABC song and wiggled. I read Clifford’s First Autumn after show and tell and looking at the star's binder. We practiced our numbers in the air with my numeral song and learned two in Spanish- “dos”. We also practiced 0 (cero) and 1 (uno). We finished our number 2 worksheets for our binders and then looked at all the parts on our bodies that come in twos. For letter time, we completed our A Alligator and I had each child practice the sounds again with me individually after I gave them a lowercase A stamp.
