Weeks 13 thru 15

ok...It has been a while since I have posted for our class- so sorry!
Here is the highlights of our last few weeks-
Week 13- Tuesday we had our Thanksgiving celebration- including cute hats, treats shared by everyone and the story of Thanksgiving. The pictures are too adorable! Such sweet children you have :)
Week 14- We had out classes Monday and Tuesday because I went out of town. Monday we talked about the number 5. We practiced tracing the numeral and read/sang stories of the 5 little ducks and 5 little speckled frogs. We were working on the letter "I" this week. We also started our own santa countdown- you should have received the santa and cotton balls for his beard. I hope that you have been able to keep up with that daily. Some of your children think you have no glue in your house!
Tuesday we talked about transportation and all the different forms it comes in.
Week 15 has been a busy week because I am making up a class from last week. Monday was a make up class for Wednesday and we talked about snow and snowmen- making a snowman and snowman puppet.
Tuesday we focused on rhombus or a diamond. They are known to be called both names. We traced them and also worked on the letter "J"- our letter of the week!
Wednesday we had our Gingerbread man story day. We made our own storybook, puppet and gingerbread man ornament to remember our story!
I will update the rest of the week (Thursday) tomorrow!

On Wednesday the 12th we focused all on books and reading. And that is what we did- READ!! I took them into our "Brandon family library" and chose the books they wanted to read and look at. Thursday the 13th we practiced the number four. We talked about squares and rectangles and their sides we were also reviewing our letters that we have learned so far. Friday night the 14th was our Literacy night. I loved having you all over to have a pajama party- thanks to Kevin Cullimore for coming in his pjs :) Sorry again for the heat of the hot chocolate- many a tongue was burned- we have learned from our mistakes.
This week- Tuesday the 18th we talked about the color brown- we played with Mr. Potato head and our brown playdough. We also had a brown bag activity where we pulled things out of a brown bag. Lastly we practiced the letter "H".

Week 8

Hello- here are some details from our week-
Tuesday the 21st we talked about triangles and discussed that they had three sides. Each child practiced drawing a triangle, we colored one and we made a page about how a flag can be a triangle. They also got their triangles to post up- hopefully with those in your home, they will be able to become more familiar with them.
Wednesday the 22nd we talked about our five senses and we did projects for each one. For taste, we tasted sweet, sour, salty and bitter items to see how our tongues work. For sight, we used magnifying glasses to see things with our eyes. With sound, we listened to a CD of all different noises to figure out what they were and with touch, we looked at different pictures and figured out how they would feel. Lastly, on smell, we had a variety of cups that had different items in them that we could smell-some good, some not so good :) Then we made our 5 senses books to take home.
Thursday the 23rd we had a fairy tale day. We read the story of the Princess and the pea. Afterwards, we counted pompom peas and also discussed the different sizes of them. We also read the great enormous carrot-just a story about helping one another. Then we colored the characters in the story.
We met the letter "E" this week through Ella Elephant in her exercise clothes. I think that the kids are starting to grasp sounds and signs- I will always practice individually with the letter of the week on Thursday. I might have them try to do one or two on their own- especially my four year olds who are going to Kindergarten next year, but my main goal with my young ones is improving on their fine motor-grasping the pencil correctly and learning how to use it.
I am planning on starting to work on names in January so we will continue with the preprinting activities until then.
I haven't been getting my camera out as often so we only have a few pictures from this week- I will be taking tons with costumes coming this next week :)

Weeks 6 & 7...

Well last week we had our Wednesday class on Tuesday and we talked about the weather- making our own weather wheels and reading "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs". (One of my favorite stories :)
Wednesday we made it to the pumpkin patch- hope all of you enjoyed our time there. It was really hot but I think that the kids enjoyed their time there-let me know if you think it is a fun field trip- I would like some feedback!

Week 7 we had a chance to have Orange day on Tuesday- with our orange playdough, orange snacks and orange letter "D" on our hand! We learned that orange is made by mixing red and yellow as well.
Wednesday we talked all about fire safety. From practicing stop, drop and roll to crawling low to the ground if there is smoke in your house. At the beginning of the month, I sent an info sheet about October is Fire Safety month- hope you were able to take some ideas off of it to talk to your children about.
Thursday we practiced, practiced, and did more practicing..the kids were tired of being with me- we worked on the number 2 and the letter "D". Definately harder for my students who don't have strong fine motor skills- please practice with them at home! Everything helps :)
Thanks so much for all you do....until next week :

Week 5...

Highlights of the week-
Tuesday we started with talking the letter "C" and circles. The kids colored their own kind of pizza and I kept the circle practice we did and they also decorated a circle with circle stickers. We continue to practice the letters we have learned in previous weeks so we don't forget how important they are too!
Wednesday we talk about the 3 little pigs and the boys made their own pigs in a blanket- we took hot dogs and crescent rolls- wrapped them up tight and baked them. These are hungry boys! We also played with the felt board set up of the story and colored our own storybooks to take home and share with our families.
Thursday we continued to talk about opposites- last week we talked about happy/sad and today we talked about noisy and quiet. We went outside and practiced these two opposites with all of my musical instruments! We sure heard the difference between noisy and quiet :)

We will go on the field trip next week and have class on Tuesday for our Wednesday students.

Week 4

It amazing how fast September has gone and we are moving right into October. Here are highlights from week 4-
Tuesday we talked about how we can be a friend and we played dress up for our welcome activity- the pictures are too cute.
Wednesday was everything apples- from snacks to talking about the parts of an apple. We are also practicing our names in this class- they are working hard to get ready for kindergarten.
Thursday we talked about opposites and especially happy and sad. What things make us happy and sad and what we can do to help others be happy and not sad. We made happy/sad puppets as well.
Our letter was "Bb" and we learned the sound and sign for the letter. I am individually taking each child and working with them on the printing of the letter-when we tried it as a group- it was scary and since this is probably the first time some of these kids are printing, I want to do it one on one.
We will be finishing Jack Be Nimble and doing Jack & Jill next month.
I will be sending info home about our field trip during week 5.

Big thank you..

Week 3..

Hello all! Here are some highlights-
Tuesday we talked about the number 1! We did do a practice sheet working on printing a #1 but I kept that for their binders. (Just a note: I will also keep all the letters and other number sheets to add to their binder.)
We also started our letter of the week starting with "A". We read a story about Abby Alligator and practiced our sounds for A- there are three of them so see if your child remembers.
Wednesday we talked about Goldilocks and the three bears. They ate oatmeal- like crazy! I was shocked!! Also colored our own story books and have their own puppets of the characters. With this class, I have started practicing their names because they will be in kindergarten next year and I want them to be prepared!
Thursday we talked about the weather and what we wear in different types of weather. We made a Wally the weather duck book and made raindrops with our fingers :) They practiced printing today- I will probably start to individually work with the students on printing since I have such a young group. We will practice that next week...
Hope you have a great weekend- Next week we our going to have friend day on Tuesday, Apples on Wednesday and Opposites: happy/sad on Thursday! Thanks- Miss Alisha

Note on pictures- I will post them as soon as I have a functional computer- it is in the shop and I am using my hubby's work computer :)

Week 2 highlights

Hello all...Our second week is done and here are some of the things that we learned. On Tuesday we learned about how to stay clean- especially using a tissue and washing our hands. We practiced washing our hands while singing the ABC song. This gets them washing them for a reasonable amount of time so they can be nice and clean. :) We also started learning our first nursery rhyme- Jack be nimble. We will practice our nursery rhymes on a weekly basis in different ways so that way we have learned it by the end of the month.
Wednesday we talked about how amazing we each are- from our bodies to special things that makes us who we are. The self portraits were too cute!
Thursday was our red day! We played with red playdough, learned a song about Mary in a red, red dress, fingerpainted red apples and made a "red" book. We also read about Clifford the Big Red Dog. Pictures are to come- we think my motherboard on my computer is having problems and isn't working (I am on my hubby's work computer now) so when I have my computer again, I will upload pictures.
Next week we will talk about the number 1, Goldilocks & the three bears on Wednesday and weather on Thursday. We will also we starting with our first letter- "A"!!
Just a note- if you don't allow your child to use scissors- this is a great age to start. Buy a small set of blunt edged scissors and let them cut lines on a paper or practice cutting out coupons or pictures from magazines. Any practice helps their fine motor skills and that helps me in the classroom.
Thanks so much for yor support and all the supplies that have been brought in. Please remember your paper towels or tissues, cups and binder with paper protectors for your child's paper projects if you haven't brought them in! Thanks again- Miss Alisha

our first week!

Our first week is already over- it went so quickly! I hope that your children enjoyed coming to Kinder-Tots. I have been looking forward to getting to know your children. It is amazing to see the growth and progression that these children make in two years- from teaching the basics to seeing them progress and move on to Kindergarten- this is an awesome job I have!
This week I hope you liked your picture and hand print frame and the book about school-have you had a chance to read it yet? I also thought that they looked adorable with their listening ears on :)
Tuesday, we talked about our school and what areas are okay to be in and not- for example, my playroom isn't somewhere we play during school time or going in the kitchen. On Wednesday we talked about our families and greandparents. I hope they will like the big hug cards that we made for Grandparents day and Thursday we talked about following the rules and what they are in class.
It was a great week and I look forward to many more ahead. We will see you Tuesday!
Reminder- book order due by Thursday the 11th!

Our ocean month

During this month as we are talking about the ocean and all the aspects, I wanted to create a "bulletin board" that could showcase some of the art projects that we will be making. I will put them on the wall and then they will be sent home next month. Well I had the kids on Friday paint the ocean for me and these are some pictures from that.
