Fri Dec 2- #7
Our class practiced the letter K on the table downstairs as we started our day. Upstairs I had Mr. Potato head, puppets and wooden blocks waiting for play time. I practiced the number 7 with each child and they did a good job with it. They also colored 7 segments of a caterpillar on the practice page.
Our star helped the class review the color names so that we can start to recognize them for Kindergarten. For circle time, we recognized that we are in a new month- December! I talked about the holidays during the month- Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. The kids were shocked to learn that not everyone in the world celebrates Christmas! Next week we will have a holidays around the world class that we will discuss these holidays more. We climbed to Christmas (25) like a koala. After, we reviewed the letter K and how it is printed properly. Then I had them be karate kids again and practice the sound as we kicked. Our class also worked on the sign for K- two fingers up with the thumb towards the middle of the two fingers. We figured out that if we take our fingers as the K and point them down to the ground it makes the P sign.
For our seven practice, we sang the numeral song tracing each number we have learned in the air. I taught the number seven in Spanish is siete and I reviewed each number in Spanish backwards so that my anxious students wouldn’t try counting ahead of the class. Then we practiced counting all the way to seven in Spanish. At the table, we colored seven pumpkins on a vine and back on the floor, I reviewed different things that come in 7. We have seven friends in the class, there are 7 days in the week and 7 colors in the rainbow.
For K time, I read the story Kangaroo Kazoo and we found the different pictures that start with K. Then we came to the table to create our K kangaroo friend. Once we completed that, we did a k stamp on each hand and I allowed the students to pass off their December poem and the majority of the class did. Great job working with them at home on these!
