Wednesday May 11th- Team sports and teamwork
For practice on Wednesday we started with name practice- first and last names. Upstairs the students played with transformers, Lincoln logs and lacing cards. I was pulling students aside to finish father’s day questionnaires and cards and starting to work on their assessments for the end of the year. Jackson was the star so he helped with reading color names and then other circle time duties. I have been practicing a bit more with the students on counting so I know that they are counting correctly- in English and Spanish. We also sang and covered the weather. Sight word practice was next- reviewing our sight word “Mad” and then also 5 others that we have learned. Jackson picked a wiggle song and then we had our snacks. Book time came next and then Jackson shared his show and tell.
For lesson time, the students wore their sports uniforms and we discussed what sports they have played. We talked about uniforms and what purpose they play for the players and spectators. We reviewed the purpose of rules to a game and how important they are when playing any kind of game. I also talked about winning and how no matter what you should be a good sport. In the games you play, you should have a good attitude and have fun while doing it- not be obsessed with winning.
At table time, we counted the team players in each box and then wrote the correct number. I showed them a whiteboard with the number so they could write it correctly.
I also gave each child a poem on teamwork and how when you are playing a team game or sport, you need to work together. It was Ethan’s unbirthday so we sang Happy Birthday to him and we had yummy cupcakes.
At the end of class, we practiced our graduation poems and we were finished with our day.
