Friday March 25th- Caterpillars and butterflies
We started with our letter review- printing and then stamping the letter W. Play time (littlest pet shop and transformers) was shortened since we needed to get done with our normal class time and routines so that we could let our butterflies out at the park. We reviewed with shape flashcards. Calendar time and letter time was the same as Wednesday’s class. Snack time was a few different foods from The Hungry Little Caterpillar book- chocolate cake (Ding dong), apples and oranges.
For our lesson we read a book about caterpillars turning into butterflies- it is an in depth book with many pictures that we explored. We discussed the life cycle of the butterfly- egg, caterpillar, cocoon and then into butterfly. I had 4 picture cards of the different parts of the life cycle and each child had to put them in the correct order.
Up at the table, each child colored the different phases of the butterfly’s life. We bundled up and walked to the park. It was a cold day- windy and cloudy. We tried to urge the 6 butterflies on to bigger and better things but I think they like my warm house instead. I had to dump them out onto the grass and then the students we on to playing with each other of the playground equipment. I will be planning a few more park days before the end of the year because they had so much fun running and playing with each other.
