Started our week with scissor practice and then went upstairs to play with little legos and beads. I pulled each child aside to work on the number 10. They practiced the number with my help and then on their own. They also chose the fun stickers that they wanted to put in their “jar” on their number sheet. We always start our day with singing “Rise and Shine” and then saying our Pledge. Tyler was my star this week and he helped with shape review for the class. Afterwards we got into calendar time with reviewing the date and what day was yesterday and what it will be tomorrow. We counted to 15 as we walked on our tip toes in a circle. I am trying to incorporate some gross motor activities into our lessons. We learned the number 10 in Spanish- diez then we counted from 1 to 10 in Spanish. We sang our days of the week and practiced our months of the year. We reviewed our weather together and then did some alphabet boogie. I introduced the students to Wally Walrus. He likes to watch worms, play with his wagon and eat watermelon. This was our favorite fruit to some of our students. The sign was simple- our three middle fingers in the air and the sound is “wa” like in water, whale and watch. We sang our “w” song along with making our sign. I also let Tyler and Payten know that their last names start with the “W”. I read some words that begin with the “W” and we sang our “w” song again. After we wiggled, ate our snack and explored our books, Tyler shared his show and tell.
For our lesson, we practiced counting again in English and Spanish to 10. I read the 10 poem about our 10 little piggies- our toes! We went up to the table to finish our 10 practice page by adding our stickers to the jar. After that we came back down to the floor for book time- I read 10 in the bed and 10 little doggies books. These books are the big books so the kids like seeing the big pictures to the stories. We went back to the table to color 10 farmers and then we added 10 hats to help shade their faces.
For our letter time, we practiced signing and signing our letter W. I read “Worm’s Wagon” story to them- Worm takes all these animals on a ride. After the whale gets in the wagon though, it breaks. His friends fix it for him and then give him a ride. I reviewed the sound with each child as I gave them their W stamp on their hand.
