Started our week with scissor practice and then we headed upstairs for play with little legos and ticker toys. I did some counting with each child practicing up to 18 as we drew stripes on a zebra. Ethan was our star this week and he helped with letter review. Calendar time was a review of all the skills we have learned this year-talking about the date- today, tomorrow and yesterday, counting to 31as we tiptoed in a circle, in Spanish to 18, counting by 10’s to 100, days of the week and months of the year and finishing with weather time. I taught them a new sight word- this. We practiced the sound that “th” makes and we compared how it sounds different than just the plan “t” sound. Then we blended the sounds together to make “this”. I did an individual practice of our sight words calling on a student and then having them find the right word. Because we didn’t have a new word to review we went right on to wiggle, snack and book time. Ethan shared his show and tell with the class and then we started our lesson on the number 18. We counted in English and Spanish to 18. I showed them how to make the number 18- reviewing the steps of how we need to remember the 1 before the 8. I also reviewed how we make the number 8- make an S and close the gate. Each child needed some help with this number but it is always great to review! Then at the bottom of the page they had to find 18 mice in the forest.
For letter time, I had letter puzzles that they had to find the upper and lowercase letters. I gave them a letter to find and then they had to find each one. They also needed to tell me the sound(s) for the letter. It was a great way to review and make it a game for all of them!
