Wednesday March 23rd- Other garden creatures
We started our Wednesday with first and last name practices and then went upstairs to play with puzzles, star wars action figures and lacing cards. Campbell helped with letter review and then we went into Calendar time. We counted, sang and started a new review by counting up to 100 by 10’s. This practice will help them as we continue to prepare them for kindergarten. For sight word practice, I laid all the characters’ names out and called on the kids individually to pick the correct ones. I did the same thing for the words that we have learned. This gave me an idea of which words we need additional help with. I will be assessing these skills soon so that I have a better understanding of the things that they have each learned. For letter time, we sang and made the sign for the letter W. After wards, we wiggled, ate our snack and got ready for our lesson. Campbell shared his show and tell.
I started our lesson with a What can it be book and they had to guess what creature it was with a part of a picture and poem about the creature. We first discussed worms and if we had ever touched one or seen one before. Many of the kids hadn’t. Worms are very beneficial to the garden and I shared some facts about the worm. For the spider, we reviewed what makes an insect- 3 parts of the body and 6 legs. A spider only has two parts and 8 legs so a spider is not an insect. We discussed facts about the spider and then went to the table to color a spider to take home. Our lesson and art project took some extra time so I sent the W coloring sheet to do at home. We still practiced our sound & sign for the letter W, got our stamp and we were off for the day.
