Mon Oct 24- Pumpkins

I had the kids practice tracing upside down U- like a rainbow to get them ready for the curves with the letter D. Upstairs, our class was a bit different. The students played with littlest pet shop and babies but then we did some painting of our own little jack o lanterns. They did a great job! Then Cole was our star this week as he helped with our circle time colors and shapes review. After we reviewed our calendar and had weather time, we learned more about the letter D. I always talk about our new letter friend- Danny Dog who like dinosaurs and playing with his dump trucks in the dirt. I also talk about other words that start with D. We practiced our sound- “da” and our sign and sang along to our letter D song twice. For class time, we started by singing 5 little pumpkins- our other poem of the month. Then I read “I love Pumpkins” and also recited our other poem- the Pumpkin. This poem helps us with the life cycle of the pumpkin. This lead us into the story “Pumpkin Jack” and how a pumpkin can go from a jack o lantern to a pumpkin patch. I had each child make their own “Jack” with their pumpkin puppets at the table and then we made our toilet paper pumpkin to share at home. For letter D time, we practiced the sign and sound of the letter. Then I modeled how to print the letter Dd on a white board for the class. Then our class went to the table and each child completed their D page- Dog on the doghouse. They printed their name, upper and lower case D and then colored their sheet. I gave them the D stamp and we practiced individually on their sound and we were done for the day. AM Class-
