We had a great day celebrating Halloween today! Each child came in worked on tracing angled lines to prep them for writing the letter V upstairs. I had transformers, foam blocks, animals and Halloween pattern sets out for the kids to play with. I worked on the letter V with each child. I also took a picture of them in all of their outfits. Sally helped us with our colors and shapes for circle time. We counted to 31 in our best Halloween howl voices. We met our new letter friend- Vinnie Vulture who likes to use his vacuum (my kind of guy) and work on his van. We learned the sign of “V” and its sound. We were “va”rooming all over the room like Vinnie’s van.
After snack time, we read a few Halloween stories and danced to the Monster Mash. At the table, the students made ghost puppets and then we played a few games of Binghost. I had made pumpkin sugar cookies so we went to the table to decorate those with frosting and chocolate chip faces.
Following that yummy activity, I talked to the students about using our good manners when we trick or treat. I had each child who brought a treat go to each student and they had to say “trick or treat” then the student would put their goodie in the bag. Afterwards, the recipient had to say thank you and then the giver had to say you’re welcome. I think it was a good practice for them to learn how to treat others for during trick or treating. I stamped each child’s hand with the letter V and they were off for the day.
