Friday February 11th- Number 14

On Fridays, we practice the letter that we learned that week and then we stamp it on the back of the sheet. Upstairs I had tinker toys, wooden blocks and links waiting for the students to play with. One of our number activities required painting with bingo stampers so I took each child aside and they stamped 14 polka dots on a white shirt worksheet. Campbell finished the week with practicing our colors and shapes. Calendar time was great because we learned our next Spanish number 14 or catorce. They were so excited to learn another Spanish number! Days of the week and Macarena months songs were next followed by weather time. Sight words practice and then letter N time came next.
Campbell shared his Ninjago (loved that it started with N) after we wiggled, ate and read.
For lesson time, we practice counting to 14 in English and Spanish. After that, we went to the table and each student practiced tracing the number 14 on their own. We usually do this individually but they have grown so much and are able to handle practicing on their own. Some of us were getting mixed up on the number 4 but I was there to help and get them back on track. After that we all made noodle necklaces with needles. Each student choose 14 noodles and they used a needle and yarn to make their necklace. This was a great fine motor activity and it integrated our number and letter for the day.
For more N practice, we cut out eggs with various words that began with N on them. Then we made a nest for them to sit in. After practicing our sound and sign once again, we were done for the week.
