Monday February 7th- Farm buildings and equipment

Mondays are scissor practice so we did that downstairs and then headed up for play time with animals, little legos and Lincoln logs. I pulled each child aside to practice the letter N during this time. Campbell was my star of the week and he helped the students review letters that we have learned so far this year. We went straight in to calendar time. We counted up to 28 (shaking like a “n”oodle on the 7th-our day of the month), in Spanish to 13 and blastoff counting 10-1. Days of the week and months of the year songs came next with our class learning the next dance moves to our months’ song. Weather time was followed with practicing our new sight words- it and Sis. They seem to be doing well with the sight words. Please practice them with your child though at home. They are all listed in their folders except for the characters names that we are learning as well. Before we got into letter time, we did our alphabet boogie and then we learned more about the letter N. Our letter friend this week is Nancy Nurse who likes necklaces, reading the newspaper and animal noises. We each practiced a different animal noise and everyone had to guess them. We also practiced the sound and sign for the letter N. I read words that beginning with the N so that the students can recognize words they know that start with N- we also were excited because our sweet Nya’s name starts with N!
After letter practice, we did our wiggle song, snack and book time and then Campbell shared his show and tell with the class. For our lesson, we started with the new monthly theme of all about the farm. I have a big poster of the farm and I explained the different areas of a farm- the farm house, pig sty, stables and silo and what each are used for. I also talked about the different equipment used- we made tractor books talking about the different uses that a tractor can be used for on a farm. We talked about the live stock on a farm and what animals that you can find there. Also about the farm itself and what kinds of foods are grown.
For letter time, we completed our N practice sheets by tracing the shapes and coloring it nicely. I reviewed the sound and sign with each child as I went around and gave them the letter stamp on their hands.
