We started the day with scissor practice and played with animals, little legos and Lincoln logs upstairs. We were learning two things today- the color pink and the shape of a heart. I took each child aside to practice the shape of the heart so I could help them with this skill. Tyler was our star for the week- he helped me with colors and shapes. Not all of our friends were wearing pink so I gave each child a pink heart sticker to wear so we could all be wearing pink for the day.
We had our calendar time- counting up to 15 and in Spanish to 7. We also practiced our days of the week song and then moved into our weather time. From there we did our alphabet boogie and learned about our new letter of the week-Q! Queen Quintella was our letter friend and she loves to make quilts. I taught them that there aren’t many words with the letter Q, but when we see the letter Q he usually has friend U. I have a great song to go along with this concept so we listened to it and some of us even danced along. I tested each child with pronouncing this sound and we practiced the sign as well as we sang our Q song. We did our wiggle song afterwards and then it was snack time. Once snack and book time was done, Tyler shared his show and tell. For our lesson, I started with reading the book Pinkalious and we talked about how we make pink by mixing white and red together. For talking about the heart shape, I had a little finger play for them to learn how to make hearts with their hands. For art time, they each were given a cup with white and red finger paint. Each child was in charge of making their own pink paint to use to paint their heart shape. Some of us got a little messy but it was contained :)
For letter time, we read our story about the Quiet Quail and sometimes it helps to be loud sometimes. We also practiced our Q song and sign again. I review the sound with each child as they get their letter stamp.
