Fri Jan 6th- #9
The children started the day with scissor practice and then on to open play with babies, puzzles and beads. While they played, I had each child come over and practice the number nine with me. “A circle and a line make the number nine” is the chant that I was telling them when we made the number. After they completed the printing of the number 9, they had to color the buildings that had 9 windows. Please work with your child on counting items- having them touch each one as they count it. We were getting incorrect answers and not doing the projects correctly because we are not counting correctly. Thanks for your help in this.
Sally helped me again with our colors and shapes. For calendar time, we worked on our days of the week, marching to 20 and we started a new practice- blastoff counting. We count from 10 to 1 and then the kids blast off- they love it and it gets some wiggles out. Letter time was all about our new sight word- See.
After our creative snack time (9 shaped cookies and J shapes for January), Sally shared her fun show and tell and then we were on to our instruction time.
I taught the students that 9 in Spanish is nueve and we counted to 9 in Spanish. I also did some math with our apple counters finding all the ways we could make the number nine. We sang our numeral song making our numbers in the air. After that, we went to the table to do a 9 counting activity at the table in which they had to color nine flies for the frog. I sent home a #9 homework sheet so your child can get more practice.
For letter time, we played mitten match up game where they had to find the upper and lowercase letters and then tell me when that letter was. We also practiced the sounds for all the letters that we have learned so far this year. We finished the day with reviewing our first story of the reading program and practicing our sight word- see.
