Wed Feb 1st- Groundhog day

Today we practiced our scissor skills and played with big blocks, tweezers with puffs and puppets. Ella helped us with spelling our color words and then we counted to 20 like we were shooting Cupid’s arrows. For calendar time, I introduced February and the holidays that we would be celebrating throughout the month. For letter time, I did individual student review of the sight words. They did great with sounding out the letters if they didn’t know the word immediately. After wiggle time, we ate snacks, had book time with a whole new library of books and then Ella shared her show and tell. For Groundhog Day, we reviewed our new poem all about the groundhog. After we did that, I talked about how groundhog’s day originated and then we went to the table to practice printing some words in a small groundhog poem. After we completed that, I read a story about a groundhog named Phyllis who wanted to have Phil’s famous job. I had a fun activity ready for them back at the table where they made their own groundhog popping out of the ground. Because of these activities, we didn’t have any time to review letters at the end of class. We reviewed our sight words at the door when we lined up.
